القواعد الحسان المتعلقة بتفسير القرآن الشيخ عبدالرحمن السعدي Rules for Tafseer of the Quran [ By Sheikh As-Saa di ] Studying these rules is actually like pondering over the Quran in a different way Based on a book by Sheikh As-Saa di شرح القواعد الحسان في تفسير القرآن Book: o Title of the o This book contains the most beautiful rulings related to Tafseer Al-Quran o One of the most famous Tafaseer of the Quran is written by Sheikh As-Saa di hence he also has a beneficial book on the rules of the Tafseer Introduction of the book how you can get the jewels/fruits from the Quran o These are the rules/principles of the Tafseer of the Quran o Honorable in rank & Beneficial to the student o These rulings will help the reader/reciter/ponderer of the Quran in order to understand the speech of Allah o These rules will open a different way of guidance and Tafseer how you will understand the Quran There are 71 rules! For each rule there is one title MAY ALLAH MAKE IT EASY FOR US & MAKE US BENEFIT FROM THEM!

1 st rule: How you will get the Tafseer (sources)? ف ي كيفية تلقي التفسير Anybody who takes any path or does any actions/deeds by approaching it through its doors (the correct ways/methods/start) he is bound to succeed and accomplish his task o This is a way of encouragement o Door means going to the source of whatever you are striving to do o This is a general statement o That for anything you plan to do if you go to the source, start, root, main door, then success is definite! You will accomplish whatever you plan to! o If you have a goal then reaching the goal through the main path/door is the easiest way to get to the goal If the thing that you want is very great then you really need to focus on its way o مطلوب what is wanted (you want) o هذا االمر تأكد will achieve his target/goal o Your target is آخرة it s a great goal so it s very important to reach to this goal o The most important path that each Muslim needs to take is that of the Quran. o To understand the Quran this is your main goal in life! o It is the most precious and most important book for everything! o Guidance in all different matters o Nothing is more greater than the Quran!

The Great Quran القرآن العظيم Revealed by Allah to guide the Creation انزله هللا تعالى لهداية الخلق In all the times & places, it will guide to the best of matters في كل وقت و زمان يرشد الى اهدى االمور Best belief/creed العقائد Best manners االخالق Best deeds/actions االعمال o The Quran is very important now HOW should we take this path to understand the كيفية تلقي القرآن Quran? o We need to take it from the door (start) in order to get to the goal o Need to take the path of the Sahaba (how they understood it) o We need to receive the Quran as the Sahaba received it

How to receive the Quran like the Sahaba? كيفية تلقي الصحابة القرآن 1. They used to take 10 verses on average (less or more) and would not proceed till they acted upon the knowledge by increasing their faith. Knowledge and actions They would not go ahead to other verses till they would understand it well! Till would act upon every verse they studied/memorized SAHABA THEIR LANGUAGE WAS PURE ARABIC / THEY WERE EXPERTS IN ARABIC / YET THEY WERE GOING VERY SLOWLY WITH THE QURAN! IMAGINE WHO/WHAT WE ARE AND OUR ATTITUDE The time frame is not mentioned how long they took to do these 10 verses! So there is no time restriction! The deciding factor is when the verses were completely understood and acted upon (affects ) o Verses about Faith increase in faith o Stories about previous nations they would believe in it & understand it o Actions they would act upon them bring the verses into the practice Each verse of the Quran has a right upon us The Sahaba did not precede until they gave each verse its true right On the Day of Judgment the Quran will either intercede for you or will be against you Emphasis on quality not quantity Each verse should increase your faith, belief and your actions 2. The acted upon the verses in their own life They applied it in their life They interpreted the verses practically in their lives They did not separate themselves from the Quran 3. They believed in whatever news Allah mentioned in the Quran They increased their Aqeedah (creed) through the verses of the Quran They did not have any separate book for Aqeedah it was through the Quran News about Allah Himself / His creation (angels, messengers, sun, moon, humans.) 4. They submit to the commandments/legislation and accepted them Were the really applying the verses in their life? Allah says in the Quran don t make fun of other people? o Are we REALLY not making fun of other people? Allah says in the Quran establish prayer?

o Are we REALLY establishing our prayer? Allah says in the Quran Don t ascribe purity to yourself o Are we REALLY not ascribing purity to ourselves? They were quick and honest in accounting themselves! Self-Analysis! 5. They continuously took accounts of their own selves
